Dental administration is a growth career – and that’s according
to the US Bureau of Labor; they forecast that along with other
healthcare jobs, there will be an increase in demand for dental
administrators because dental work is in increasing demand as
an older population in better health increasingly keep their
own teeth, and need dental maintenance. Dental administrators
take much of the non-dental work away from dentists, and therefore
will be in demand for at least the next ten years. Dental administrators
are responsible for all the business side of a dental practice,
keeping accounts, billing and other insurance administration,
and patient records and appointments. They look after ordering
and paying for consumables and other items required by the dentist,
and they will take on responsibility for payroll and maybe other
personnel issues. Most dental administrators gain admittance
to the profession via a qualification from college or university,
either a two year or a four year degree. They study both business
and administration subjects plus some dental healthcare subjects.
